Well, as someone who has struggled with feeling excessively sleepy during the day, I’d say it’s a real drag. From what I’ve gathered and my own experiences, things like your mental health, the meds you’re on, or other health issues could be behind hypersomnia. For me, dealing with anxiety and adjusting my medication really made a difference. It’s like, you gotta look at the whole picture, know what I mean?

Causes of Hypersomnia

Hypersomnia, which is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness even after adequate or extended nighttime sleep, can have various etiologies. Primarily, it possibly relates to neurological disorders like narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia. It could also be caused by other medical conditions such as thyroid issues, heart disease, and sleep apnea. Contributing factors may include depression, obesity, epilepsy, and certain medications.

Other causes might include dysfunction in the autonomic nervous system or damage to the sleep-wake centers in the brain. Sometimes, lifestyle factors such as alcohol and drug use can exacerbate this condition.
