Track Events: These events primarily involve running over established distances in the shortest time possible. They include sprints, middle-distance, and long-distance races, as well as hurdles and relay races. Sprints are quick, explosive races ranging from 100m to 400m. Middle-distance races, like the 800m and 1500m, test both speed and endurance. Long-distance races can cover from 3000m to 10,000m, heavily relying on endurance. Hurdles and relays are specialized races that involve overcoming barriers and team coordination, respectively.

Field Events: These involve throwing and jumping. Jumping competitions include the long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault, each requiring a combination of speed, technique, and power. Throwing events such as shot put, discus, hammer throw, and javelin throw challenge athletes to send an object as far as possible, using skillful force application and body mechanics.

In addition to these, there are combined events like the decathlon and heptathlon, which involve a series of different events contested over two days, testing the versatility and overall capability of an athlete. Understanding the unique challenges and skills required for each type of event is essential for appreciating the diverse talents and disciplines within track and field.
