From a hobbyist’s view who loves shopping and occasionally helps out in a family retail store, I think being personable and proactive are key traits in retail jobs. If you show genuine interest in helping customers and anticipate their needs, you’re bound to do well. Also, keeping up with product knowledge and store promotions is quite beneficial and makes you look good in front of the employer and customers.
